Handel

George Frederic Handel. A man of musical genius and one who was looked upon with great admiration by all vocalists of that time. Handel was a man who wrote for the vocalist and did whatever it took to enhance the vocalists' strengths1. He was claimed to be the greatest composer who ever lived.2 His technique and style was one of magnificent structure and precision. Handel was around and actually had the opportunity to work with Scarlatti in Rome. Handel and Scarlatti both had very similar techniques and musical arrangements. Handel was however younger then Scarlatti but that brought new ideas and musical adaptations. Handel was in his prime between the years 1711-1732. He wrote with such passion that was admired, and his arias are those of warm and sensuous content.3 Handel will always be remembered for his work of the Messiah, which is an extraordinary piece of musical genius. Handel had many vocalists perform this work and each time he would change the arias and recitatives to make the music more spectacular depending on who was performing.4 Handel was also fond of a few of his vocalists and would purposely alter a particular aria for that vocalist.5 Handel was known as being a selfless man.
